The Big Three

There are three prominent ways to make money on Runescape. The so-called big three include mining, fishing, and woodcutting.

Mining

To get started, you will need a pickaxe. At the beginning, you will only be able to mine tin and copper. After a while, you will be able mine coal and make more money. Since copper and tin have very little value, you can either combine them into bronze or just drop the ore. It is not recommended to keep it in the bank.

A miner should sell ore for as a high of a price as is possible. If someone offers you a lower price, it’s best to hold out. You will want to advertise in crowded areas, such as Varrock Square. Be on the lookout for smithers. They are often willing to pay more than the going price for ore. Remember that keeping and maintaining friendships with buyers is essential. If someone is buying higher than average priced ore, establish a relationship and add the buyer to your list. Always keep your promises. If you say that you will sell a product, sell it.

Fishing

The first thing you need to consider when preparing to fish is the equipment. You need something to catch the fish with and possibly some kind of lure. You also need to consider what kind of fish you’d like to catch. Once you have that determined, you can choose where to fish and exactly what kind of lure to use.

Fishing takes time and practice to be able to make a profit. You can begin with shrimp from Al Kharid and move on to trout from the Barabarian Village and Shilo Village. Later you will be able to catch lobsters from Catherby or the Fishing Guild. Once you pass level 80, you will be able to catch sharks and sell them for anywhere between 700 and 1,000 gp each.

Woodcutting
Woodcutting is perhaps the easiest of the Runescape skills. You begin by wielding your axe. Choose the tree you wish to cut down, and chop at it until it falls. Once you reach level 60, you will have cut around 4,000 willows. You can sell them for around 30 gp each and get around 120k for them. Once you reach level 60, you can cut yews and sell them for 300-375 gp each. Another tip is to buy them for 250 gp and sell them later for around 300 gp. There are numerous ways to make fairly easy money woodcutting. It’s just a matter of experience.

By gaining skills in these three areas, you can decide which one suits you best and work at it until perfection.

RuneScape Economy

The RuneScape economy is quite similar to real world economics.

The RuneScape economy is quite similar to real world economics. One difference, however, is that skill development is encouraged along side wealth accumulation. Various currencies are used regionally throughout RuneScape. Inflation is controlled by various means, as is the economy in general.

The base of the economy is comprised of potatoes and wheat, then fish, logs, ores and coal and also bones and raw meat accumulated by killing monsters. A second tier of commodities is made up of items processed from harvested items includes tanned hides, metal bars, cooked foods, gems and runes. A third tier is made up of fully processed items and rare items.

The value of commodities is primarily determined by scarcity and the skill level required to obtain them. Items that are not readily available are more valuable. Those items that require a higher skill level are scarcer and therefore more valuable. Monetary value is not the only judge of value. If a lot of experience is gained, the value of the commodity is also increased.

The primary currency in RuneScape is gold pieces or coins. This currency is often referred to as gp. However, there are also alternate currencies. One of these is Tokkul. This currency, made of black obsidian, was introduced into the city of Tzhaar in 2005. Tokkul can be acquired by killing high-level demons and as an award in the Fight Pits and Fight Caves. Players can also earn a type of currency called Trading Sticks. These are obtained by performing favors for community members. New currencies are continuously being introduced into RuneScape. However, these are usually confined to specific regions or can only be used to purchase certain items.

All buying and selling prices at specialty stores are controlled. The price is determined by the value of the item and the quantity in stock. It is possible to make quick money by buying cheaper items that are overstocked and then selling them to stores where these items are not in stock for a higher price. Alchemy spells allow players to collect valuable goods because of their alchemical value rather than the real value.

Inflation is also controlled by assuring that money leaves the game. Barrows weapon and armor sets are just one of the ways in which this is done. Since they require constant repair, money is continuously leaving the game as it is paid to an NPC. Also, Construction has caused a drop in the price of items such as Party hats and whips.

Thus, RuneScape serves as a virtual world with a virtual economy. It is controlled but continuously changing. Knowing how the overall economy works can facilitate the moneymaking process.

Essence Runescape

For those of you with limited RuneScape skills, essence running is an excellent way to earn money or runes.

For those of you with limited RuneScape skills, essence running is an excellent way to earn money or runes. Even though there are numerous ways to essence run, it is all based on one basic concept. Because runecrafters can only carry 23-27 essences at a time, they are not able to accumulate very much runecrafting experience very quickly. As a runner, you are there to help others gain runecrafting experience. By doing so, you will be able to earn runes or cash.

There are various items needed for essence running. These include:
Boots of lightness
No weapons or armor
27 Pure Rune Essence

Something, such as Law Runes, to take up inventory space and therefore quicken the banking process

So how do you get started? Check out forums. There you will find people looking to hire essence runners. Once you find a potential employer, here are several things to keep in mind:
How much does the employer pay?
Are you provided with essences?
Are there bonuses available?
How many runners do they have?
How many essences are required per run?
What is the employer’s runecrafting level? (More runes can be made from the same amount of essences in certain levels.)

In order to essence run successfully, you must trade the essence unnoted. It is also essential that you trade them at the correct temple. Remember to travel light. This means lightweight armor, boots of lightness, and bare essentials in your inventory.

Also, common courtesy will go a long way. Be sure to thank the crafter who traded with you. It is, after all, a free service. In order to avoid being neglected, only say “law me plz” if you are inside the Altar and no one is trading with you when you are to the side. Also, having two pouches does not mean that people will trade you twice. It just slows down the process. Finally, if you are inside the Altar, stand to one side. Avoid the line where the crafters are.

When earning runes, it’s important to know how you can use the type of rune you are running. First, there are four elemental runes: air, water, fire and mind. These are used in spells. Airs are generally best for lower level mages, as they are used for offensive spells. Higher-level mages will benefit most from fire, as they are used in god spells. Body runes are good for stat reduction spells. You will generally use only a few cosmic runes, as they have limited uses. Natures are among the most useful runes because they are used for high alchemy. Lastly, law runes are best for pure mages.

Armed with a few basics, you can try your hand at essence running and maybe you’ll learn your own tricks of the trade.

Crafting and Runecrafting in Runescape

Runecrafting allows you to make your own runes, a useful skill considering that spells use quite a lot of them.

Runecrafting allows you to make your own runes, a useful skill considering that spells use quite a lot of them. The first necessary step to take is to mine Rune Essence from the Essence Mine. The Abyss comes highly recommended by a number of players. However, getting to these mines is no easy task. Finding the mine can be quite challenging and very few sources can teleport you to it. Those who can include the Wizard Distentor of the Yanille Magic Guild, the Wizard Cromperty, found Northeast of the Ardougne Market, and Brimstail Gnome, found in a cave in the southwest corner of the Tree Gnome Stronghold.

Mining is a practical way for newcomers to fund later adventures. After a few days of mining, you can sell your bulk essence. Since the price you get for it greatly depends upon the quantity, you should have at least 1,000 essence. There are two types of essence, normal essence and pure essence. You can mine pure essence if you are a member with at least level 30. Pure essence can then be used to craft any rune while normal essence can only be used to craft fire, earth, air, water, mind and body runes.

With the right know-how, runecrafting can be an excellent way to make fast money. While finding lucrative and convenient altars can be challenging, a mid to high level player can benefit from heading out into the wild, as the best altars are found far from the banks. In order to runecraft, the player must have reached at least level 35. Up until that point, one can make air runes with 4,482 rune essence. From level 35 up to level 44, you can make chaos runes with 3,911 rune essence. Once above level 44, you can make nature runes and sell them for anywhere between 300 and 500 gp a piece. These runes yield the highest profit.

When runecrafting, it is advisable to wear boots of lightness and wear minimal armor and weaponry. Only a pickaxe is needed. It is recommended to have pouches with you to allow you to carry more essence. Remember to use your pouches if you have them. They will save you time and money.

To make nature runes quickly, you must:

Convert all rune essence into bank notes.
Take 4 times the amount of gp as you have essence.
Take notes to the shop near the village.
Sell your notes to the shop and buy them back in real form.
Go to the Altar to craft nature runes.
Return to the shop and repeat as many times as you wish.
There a lot of ways to runecraft. These are just a few pointers to get you started. The true secret lies in experience and practice.
