Simple but Fun! Arcade Classics

Do you remember your childhood days at the local arcade? How many quarters did you anxiously jam down the slot to get a little bit further in Donkey Kong or Super Mario Bros.?

Do you remember your childhood days at the local arcade? How many quarters did you anxiously jam down the slot to get a little bit further in Donkey Kong or Super Mario Bros.?

Those were pretty good times for you and for the video game industry. You could play a game utilizing the latest technology for a bit of your lunch money, while the industry could throw a few pixels on a screen and rake in said lunch money. Times have certainly changed though. The old arcades have fallen into a state of disrepair, as new games just aren’t being made to cater to their genre. You also won’t be able to play the newest games for a piece of your lunch money either. It’s more like part of a second mortgage to pay for all of the expensive gear to even be able to run the newest games. Doesn’t it just make you pine for the old classics in the arcade?

Thankfully, most of these old arcade games have successfully weathered the trials of time to make the full jump to the Internet age. Flash games have happily pulled the old technology right into their warm, glowing, electronic bosom. Flash designers and game developers have used their knowledge to turn the games they played as kids into a game they can now play for free. Copyright issues can be a little bit fuzzy around these games, but that’s for the developers to handle. What does this really mean for you though?

Well, it means that you can finally beat Donkey Kong without blowing $50 on a thousand restarts (unless you’re actually good). You can even enjoy the added control from using a keyboard and a mouse. All of these classics have been picked up as little flash games somewhere, in one form or another, so that you can enjoy them in your spare time. What could be better than a bit of nostalgia during a lunch break? Did I mention that they’re free?

There are some other great games that have made the jump as well. The popular Sonic the Hedgehog franchise was made into a popular flash game. You can play all of the great levels of the old games in a convenient online setting. You might want to turn down the sound if you’re playing at work though. Your boss won’t believe that Microsoft Word now makes whirling and ringing sounds when you spell something right (trust me, I know).

In the end, it really just comes down to your basic convenience in getting your game on. You are now able to play all of the old games you loved without spending an arm and a leg. Playing games online is going to be a lot cheaper than any of the games you can expect to find today, but you should still get a classic thrill from the experience. Deep down inside, I know that you have always been deeply bothered by your unresolved issues with Donkey Kong and Pacman. Play them today and sort out your life.
